2010 Looks to be a busy year

Warehouse Solutions, Inc. had a good year considering the economy and if that’s any indication 2010 should be a great year. One of the reasons for this is because of our inventory. Shady Material Handling Companies

We just got a pdf fly and email from an International steel company. Something wasn’t right with the add I was looking at. It didn’t have an address, it had multiple area codes for the different names, and they don’t have a website. I’m sorry in this day and age if you don’t have a website - even a poorly made one - then you’re probably not ready to play in this space.

I goggled the different types of names on the email and flyer and it comes up with a Chinese company. I’m not sure if it’s because I Googled it wrong or that indeed that was the correct search. Either way I couldn’t read it because it was in Chinese. The email came from one of those huge “anyone can have an email here” places.

This c”company” was advertising 3 different distribution centers full of pallet racking, wire decking, load beams and more. their newsletter even had Volume 1 - Article 1. If you’re going to try to fool people you really should at least try and make it look like you’ve had many newsletters out there.

Needless to say there are a lot of people in this world that are doing a lot of shady things. in this economy there are scores of foolish buyers out there that will fall for it. This is because everyone is looking for the best deal. the best deal is found at the most reliable material handling companies out there. these companies are meeting or sometimes even beating these discount prices and the quality and service is better.

If you are going to buy ANY material handling products in this economy I have 2 suggestions for you and they are:

1. Go look at the company you are dealing with and see the product first hand. Many companies are advertising their “huge” yard of material and people take them for their word. The reality is that the yard is empty of full of stuff no one wants.

2. Meet the owners. in this economy the owners of these companies are working and available all the time. See for yourself the character and industry view of the person/company that you will be dealing with.

WOW! From Post-It Notes to Pallet Racking!

You have to love this economy. It brings out everyone who instantly becomes experts in the material handling industry. It’s amazing that companies that need warehouse equipment such as pallet racking, wire decking, forklifts and more, end up buying from someone who sell office furniture.

If you are going to risk the safety of your inventory, employees and company’s future in the hands of an expert in office chairs, you might want to second guess that. One small slip due to a lack of experience can cost you your business. This is an economy where everyone is competing on price and with that there are the big companies that are competing on price as well. Why would anyone choose a filing cabinet company who bought stuff from an auction that might not be a good fit for your warehouse - oh yeah, it’s cheap.

Deterioration of Concrete

I just ran across an article on the deterioration of concrete. It got me thinking about many of the jobs we do here at Warehouse Solutions, Inc. Just about every job we do has something to do with concrete. All the pallet racking, industrial shelving, mezzanines, forklifts, pallet jacks and the list goes on - comes in contact with cement and adds stress to it.

When we go into a new warehouse or facility the cement is pristine and solid. This makes our job easier when it comes to anchoring in the pallet racking. It’s the older buildings that have cracks and chunks missing on the concrete floor that poses a bigger challenge. When you’re only anchoring in a few bays it’s not much of a challenge, but when its isles and isles of it, well that’s more challenging. This is because for inspection purposes you can’t anchor on or right next to a crack in the cement.

When everyone is an expert - no one is!

Well the recession certainly brings the “Pallet Racking” companies out of the woodwork! I have noticed in the last few months an amazing thing – everyone is a pallet racking expert.

Companies that never sold any material handling products before are expanding their product line and services and “POOF!” they’re now experts. With this come new challenges of competition. Ultimately everyone will compete with price – and that’s when everyone looses – especially the buyers.

Sure used pallet rack is used pallet rack and you can save a lot of money buying it used. It’s the labor, experience, safety, timeline and many other things that you have to be worried about. So if you are going to get the same “best” price from everyone – why wouldn’t you just go to the best companies out there and get the best service as well.
